Remain!
REMAIN, ah not in youth alone!
Tho’ youth, where you are, long will stay
But when my summer days are gone,
And my autumnal haste away.
‘Can I be always by your side?’
No; but the hours you can, you must,
Nor rise at Death’s approaching stride,
Nor go when dust is gone to dust.

- You Remain As a perfume doth remain In the folds where it hath lain, So the thought of you, remaining Deeply folded in my brain, Will not leave me; all things leave me – You remain. Other thoughts may come and go, Other moments I may know That shall waft me, in their going, As a breath […]...
- The Mysteries Remain The mysteries remain, I keep the same Cycle of seed-time And of sun and rain; Demeter in the grass, I multiply, Renew and bless Bacchus in the vine; I hold the law, I keep the mysteries true, The first of these To name the living, dead; I am the wine and bread. I keep the […]...
- I Have Started To Say I have started to say “A quarter of a century” Or “thirty years back” About my own life. Their order, and their manner, Remain to be learnt....
- All Lovely Things All lovely things will have an ending, All lovely things will fade and die, And youth, that’s now so bravely spending, Will beg a penny by and by. - Sestina I wandered o’er the vast green plains of youth, And searched for Pleasure. On a distant height Fame’s silhouette stood sharp against the skies. - Last Word To Childhood Ice-cold fear has slowly decreased As my bones have grown, my height increased. Though I shiver in snow of dreams, I shall never Freeze again in a noonday terror. - Crazy Jane On God That lover of a night Came when he would, Went in the dawning light Whether I would or no; Men come, men go; All things remain in God. - Unlyric Love Song It is time to give that-of-myself which I could not at first: To offer you now at last my least and my worst: Minor, absurd preserves, The shell’s end-curves, A document kept at the back of a drawer, A tin hidden under the floor, Recalcitrant prides and hesitations: To pile them carefully in a desparate […]...
