Today
If ever there were a spring day so perfect,
So uplifted by a warm intermittent breeze
That it made you want to throw
Open all the windows in the house
And unlatch the door to the canary’s cage,
Indeed, rip the little door from its jamb,
A day when the cool brick paths
And the garden bursting with peonies
Seemed so etched in sunlight
That you felt like taking
A hammer to the glass paperweight
On the living room end table,
Releasing the inhabitants
From their snow-covered cottage
So they could walk out,
Holding hands and squinting
Into this larger dome of blue and white,
Well, today is just that kind of day.

- Unlyric Love Song It is time to give that-of-myself which I could not at first: To offer you now at last my least and my worst: Minor, absurd preserves, The shell’s end-curves, A document kept at the back of a drawer, A tin hidden under the floor, Recalcitrant prides and hesitations: To pile them carefully in a desparate […]...
- The House This poem has a door, a locked door, And curtains drawn against the day, But at night the lights come on, one In each room, and the neighbors swear They hear music and the sound of dancing. - When I Met My Muse I glanced at her and took my glasses Off they were still singing. They buzzed Like a locust on the coffee table and then Ceased. Her voice belled forth, and the Sunlight bent. - Stroke The literate are ill-prepared for this Snap in the line of life: The day turns a trick Of twisted tongues and is Untiable, the month by no mere root Moon-ridden, and the yearly eloquences yielding more Than summer’s part of speech times four. - Love In A Life I Room after room, I hunt the house through We inhabit together. Heart, fear nothing, for, heart, thou shalt find her, Next time, herself!-not the trouble behind her Left in the curtain, the couch’s perfume!
